Feed Wild Discus The best way !

What is the best food for the Wild Discus ?

It is always a complex and pertinent topic to talk about the best food for the Wild Discus. We are going to talk about the 8 year experience of feeding Wild Discus in our company.

Since 1987 I have had several experiences with food for Discus. Of the " mixed food with beef heart, etc." I have done for over 25 years mixing foods, fruits, vitamins to have a balanced diet. It was wrong, it was not the best food I could give the Discus . But that will speak later on the mixtures with beef heart.

Artificial but balanced food

As I said before in your environment the Wild Discus feed mainly on algae, fruits, seeds etc, ie a high content of plant components. In our aquariums If we can offer algae like spirulina, chlorella containing unsaturated fatty acids, ascophyllum nodosum and laminaria digitata will be ideal. Remembering that achlorella is rich in essential amino acids, such as vitamins and micro and macronutrients of seaweed, including iodine, chromium, selenium and iron, they guarantee the fish an excellent state of growth and health. But there is a green pigment whose concentrated source is spirulina and chlorella. It is called chlorophyll by limiting the development of undesirable bacteria in the alimentary tract, preventing the inflammation from promoting the elimination of toxins from fish organisms. High extremely important. The immune system of the fish is aided in the fight against the pathogens by the active substances of garlic and spirulina once again. If the color in the Discus is important to realize your health, also the carotenoids are important in your diet. Krill is usually part of the components of some flakes and granules and enhances the Discus' natural colors. All these elements we find in Tropical food. We tried them all and ended up using all the foods available through the Tropical brand. From Spirulina to 3 Algae, through D-Allio Plus, D-50, Krill and the more elaborate and richer composition like the Wild Gran Discus. As for us Wild Discus are made of habits. If we give only granulates they get used to eating them and refuse the flakes and so on. Ideally, you should use both the granules and the flakes alternately.

Why Tropical and not frozen food or other brand ?

Last 8 years to give only Tropical flakes and Tropical granules. We went through several brands that exist in the market, but not all we got good results. In some brands, the digestion of fish was complicated to do . We often observe fish with obstruction, eventually dying. Other nutrient balances were minimal and we do not give our Wild Discus all they need, other excessively dirty water.
If dogs and cats there is a balanced diet in flakes and gran, with all the necessary elements for vitality and growth because using meat heart mixed with something frozen !!

What experience do I have with the beed heart? If I made different mixtures for many years, I always had two problems. Bacteria that lodge in the food and that sometimes caused problems in Aquarium and the dirt that the same food causes in contact with the water. Unlike the Domestics Discus ( Hybrid ) , the Wild Discus likes "old water", that is, water changes must obviously be made, but not as many  , as those born in captivity the Domestic Discus .

Beef heart is pure protein. If they grow up? Without any doubt but I can not consider a balanced diet.  Sometimes we see Discus obese, that even lose their beauty of being deformed, very fat where the food is made based on Beef Heart. We do not think we are the ideal .
Not to mention the problem of polluted water as you can see when the Beef heart mix comes into contact with hot water. More than that the Wild Discus in their environment do not eat Beef Heart, right ? The rations are studied to have a balance fundamentally in the growth and vitality of ornamental fish. Dried flakes and granules are scientifically studied, packaged to provide everything the Discus eats in nature!!

After visiting the Tropical factory, the facilities and the natural components with which Tropical makes its food in flakes and granules, we decided to accept the challenge and start feeding our Wild Discus. Nowadays, food starts in the jungle with these foods. One fact that few know is to start administering Tropical grains like the D-50 Plus, still inside the wooden boxes where we joined the Wild Discus before being taken to the company Santarem Discus.

Other food for Wild Discus .

Natural  very small shrimp can be given directly to the Wild discus  as long as it does not stay in the bottom of the aquarium. Such as mosquito larvae. The darker small ones are great in terms of protein for the small Discus grow. The excellent red mosquito larvae to promote Discus reproduction. It usually gave mosquito larvae mixed with vitamin D-3 and with excellent results. Remember that vitamin D-3 will have to be well mixed in the larvae because it is soluble in water. Artemia being the usual food given to feed the fry when they begin to eat alone, is an optimal food. In fact we always advise to add a vitamin to the artemia. All live foods in general are important in feeding the Wild Discus

To conclude and we ask attention to this detail the best food we can give is dried through granules and flakes. Mosquito larva or other live food cultures are like a "little dessert". This is because if we get used to Wild Discus larvae, artemia, live cultures they hardly ever eat the most balanced food we can offer ... dry food in flakes and granules

New Food from Tropical  ... Pro Defense !

Over the last few months we have noticed that the two-month Manaus Aquarium medicaments quarantine, with Bilocil, Levamicil and Octocil associated with Tropical Pro Defense food has allowed for strong growth of our Wild Discus. A fact that we could not fail to share with all of you. We come to the conclusion that Wild Discus well dewormed, with a food rich in protein, provided once a day but in small quantities is fundamental for this success. Probiotic influences without doubt the growth. A unique food so far in the world market. We recommend Pro Defense hi-protein powder with probiotic for everyday feeding.
• probiotic added to the food contains viable Bacillus subtilis endospores, which stabilize gut microflora, boosting fish resistance to pathogens and facilitating utilization of nutrients, which in turn accelerates fish's growth and reduces contamination of water with fish's feces
• the synergic effect of probiotic, beta-glucan, vitamins and carotenoids significantly enhances the immune system of the fry, increasing its resistance to pathogens
• probiotic increases the survival rate of the fry and its resistance to stress
• high content of protein, including essential amino acids, ensuring healthy growth and development of fish
• properly selected vitamins, macronutrients and trace elements prevent avitaminosis, rickets and supports organ and bone development

We recommend Pro Defense from Tropical
