Season 2021-2022 / Parte 1

The last Wild season was characterized by constant rainfall throughout the Amazon. In about 2 months we had 5 days without rain. If last year the rivers dropped to a level almost never seen before, leaving areas of the Amazon impossible to navigate due to sandbanks and drought, this year the opposite happened. By the time the river started going down to levels that would allow the collection of Wild discus the rains were constant. When it rains the river, lakes and streams run off dirty water and it becomes impossible for fishermen to fish. This is in addition to the strong storms that occur during this period.                     With heavy rainstorms, thunderstorms, and constant lightning, fishing is almost impossible. We fished hundreds of miles aboard the boat Santarem Discus in Trombetas, Obidos and some other places that we considered secret. In fact these trips and dives made by the fishermen resulted in finding new Wild Discus in...

Usual mistakes !

Today I will talk about the usual mistakes for those who start having Wild Discus in their homes. We must understand that Wild Discus are slightly different behavioral fish compared to Donesticos (Hybrids). I often say that Wild Discus is the last step of who has kept Discus Hybridos so if you are more of a fan of Wild Discus read this short article. Stress is probably one of the biggest enemies of the Wild Discus. If the Discus in general suffer from so-called stress it can be avoided. Water The Wild Discus essentially like "old waters" !!!!  What, after all, are "old waters". Water well cycled, water that is already in the aquarium for at least 3 to 4 months. Water with a large colony of nitrifying Bacteria !! The power of these bacteria is to transform ammonia into nitrites through nitrosomones and nitrite into nitrate through nitrobacteria. Known as the nitrogen cliclo. Why are they called nitrifiers? The nitrification happens with the oxidat...

3 months to get 4000 Wild Discus !

Many do not understand the difficulty of getting the amount of Wild Discus allowed by Brazilian Law during such a short space of time . That it takes the Amazon Rivers to descend and to rise. As we have already mentioned, we have a quota of 4000 Wild Fish by Brazilian law. The Amazon Rivers usually begin to descend in May, June and only in September it is possible to collect Wild Discus. In the past, water in the Rivers had only begun to rise in January . Of course, all this depends on Mother Nature. If we do not see, for example the Season of 2018/2019. The Rivers  started to go down in May, very slowly, but until October they did not go down enough to hold any collection. At the end of October we started to finally select the first Wild Discus. The water has dropped in an extraordinarily fast way and by the end of November it has begun to rise.  In fact we had about 45 days to collect and select 4000 wild discus in different communities. All very far fr...
