Royal, Semi Royal our simplesmente vermelho ... a difícil seleção !

Imagem

Beside us in the Amazon without secrets !

Imagem
Since 2009 we started to organize small expeditions to the Amazon  This year of 2019 that we make 10 years we decide to make the last 2 expeditions 22 to 30 October and 13 to 21 November 2019 . Due to the high costs of the Santarem Discus Boat, we decided to sell it in 2020. So this will be the last season that we will organize something that no one so far does with this comfort and quality in the collection of Wild Discus in Amazonia The dates of the trips are always dependent on the descent of the Rivers, but for now are the dates that we guarantee to see the collection of the Wild Discus. This boat will miss all those who have traveled in it. Safety , attractive, spacious and with beds on board unlike the Amazonian boats where one has to sleep in a hammock. We obviously have nets on board to feel pleasure during the trip and the experience of lying in a hammock. Neither Manaus nor Santarem "the land of the Wild Discus" there is such a boat and ...

Amazon Biotope

Imagem
Throughout these years in Amazonia I have observed the attempt to recreate Amazonian Biotopos in aquariums. In fact, it is not such a complicated task. Those who have come to the Amazon with us have managed to recreate them.  They succeeded because they also plunged into different communities and were able to observe the reality of the places where the Wild Discus remain. I am often asked what plants exist. In fact, there are almost no plants in the environments where the Wild Discus live and hide from predators. More trunks, twigs, sticks, dry leaves superimposed on a light brownish fine sand the environment in which the wild discus remain and live.  The images I put give to understand how the bottom of the Rivers. Trunks and bad fallen on sand. Sometimes and against what many "experts" say there are places with rocks where the Wild Discus hide and live to reproduce. There are many areas of volcanic rocks along the Amazon, a fact that has little knowledge...

Jack Wattley

Imagem
Today I dedicate this article to what I consider one of the greatest examples in the Discus World, Jack Wattley !  A man who dedicated much of his life to the Discus. I had the pleasure of meeting him again on my trip to Miami in 2015, where I deprived him for a few hours at his house. He had met Jack Wattley in 2000 at the Discus Championship in Duisburg. By the way the story is told in this way. Jack Wattley was introduced to me and when I learned that it was Portugues he told me, let's see the Discus  in competition.  He took a piece of paper out of his pocket, and incredibly it was my Discus who was in the Brown class and ranked 5th. Jack smiled, showed the paper with the aquarium number and told me, you have the best Brown of this championship. The story was recorded until today, as well as the honor of meeting him personally, in his eyes my Brown Discus was for him the best.  15 years later he still remembered this episode. Incidentally, ...

Usual mistakes !

Imagem
Today I will talk about the usual mistakes for those who start having Wild Discus in their homes. We must understand that Wild Discus are slightly different behavioral fish compared to Donesticos (Hybrids). I often say that Wild Discus is the last step of who has kept Discus Hybridos so if you are more of a fan of Wild Discus read this short article. Stress is probably one of the biggest enemies of the Wild Discus. If the Discus in general suffer from so-called stress it can be avoided. Water The Wild Discus essentially like "old waters" !!!!  What, after all, are "old waters". Water well cycled, water that is already in the aquarium for at least 3 to 4 months. Water with a large colony of nitrifying Bacteria !! The power of these bacteria is to transform ammonia into nitrites through nitrosomones and nitrite into nitrate through nitrobacteria. Known as the nitrogen cliclo. Why are they called nitrifiers? The nitrification happens with the oxidat...

Feed Wild Discus The best way !

Imagem
What is the best food for the Wild Discus ?  It is always a complex and pertinent topic to talk about the best food for the Wild Discus. We are going to talk about the 8 year experience of feeding Wild Discus in our company.       Since 1987 I have had several experiences with food for Discus. Of the " mixed food with beef heart, etc." I have done for over 25 years mixing foods, fruits, vitamins to have a balanced diet. It was wrong, it was not the best food I could give the Discus . But that will speak later on the mixtures with beef heart. Artificial but balanced food As I said before in your environment the Wild Discus feed mainly on algae, fruits, seeds etc, ie a high content of plant components. In our aquariums If we can offer algae like spirulina, chlorella containing unsaturated fatty acids, ascophyllum nodosum and laminaria digitata will be ideal. Remembering that achlorella is rich in essential amino acids, such as vitamins a...
